Terms of Service

Effective September 26, 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and ChessDrama Studio ("we", "us") for using the studio, the cloud renderer, the Pro subscription and the community forum. By creating an account or using the service you accept them. Please also read the Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your data.

Your age

  • You must be at least 13 to hold an account. The service is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly let them sign up.
  • Some countries set a higher age at which you can agree to online services on your own, up to 16. If you are under that age where you live, you need a parent or guardian's permission before using ChessDrama Studio.
  • A paid plan needs an adult. You must be 18 or older to subscribe, or have a parent or guardian subscribe and pay on your behalf, because a subscription is a contract.
  • If we learn that an account belongs to someone too young to hold one, we will close it and delete what it holds. If you believe a child has given us their details, tell us through the forum and we will remove them.

Your account

  • An account is for one person. Keep your password to yourself; what happens under your account is your responsibility.
  • Give us a real email address. It is how we verify the account, send render notifications and reach you about the service.
  • ChessDrama Studio is new and still changing: features may be added, changed or withdrawn without notice.

Your content and copyright

You keep the copyright to the videos, projects, voice-overs and everything else you make with ChessDrama Studio. Nothing in these terms transfers it to us, and we make no claim on how you use or publish your work.

So that we can run the service, you give us permission to store, process, render and deliver your content: to play back your project, to render it in the cloud, to hold the finished video for you to download, and to send it in the email that tells you it is ready.

Quality control. We reserve the right to retain copies of the videos the platform produces and to watch them, so that we can check the renderer's output, find and fix defects, and improve the service. We do not publish your videos or share them with anyone outside the platform for any other purpose.

The piece artwork and other third-party assets built into the studio are used under their own licences, listed on our Open-source notices page; they are not covered by your copyright in the videos you make with them.

Open-source components

Parts of the service are third-party open-source software, listed with their licences on our Open-source notices page. Those components are governed by their own licences, which prevail over these terms in respect of those components, and nothing here limits the rights those licences grant you.

In particular the chess engine, Stockfish, is licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 3. You are free to copy, study, modify and redistribute it on those terms. The licence text and directions to its complete corresponding source are served alongside the engine and linked from the notices page.

Acceptable use

  • Do not upload or post anything unlawful, or that you do not have the right to use.
  • Be civil on the forum. Platform staff may make topics private, archive them or remove them.
  • Do not try to get around usage limits, access other people's accounts or content, or interfere with the service.
  • Do not use automated tools to scrape the site or to render at volume beyond what your plan allows.

The Pro subscription

  • Pro costs US$5 a month, billed through Stripe, and renews each month until you cancel. The features it includes are listed on your Account page.
  • You can cancel at any time from your Account page. You keep access to Pro features through the end of the period you have already paid for, and nothing further is charged. You can resume before that date and billing simply continues.
  • Refunds and disputes. Refunds are considered case by case, and a month already used is not normally refunded. To ask for one, or to question a charge, email [email protected] or start a topic on the forum and tick Private, so that only platform staff can see it, and tell us what happened. We answer within a few days.
  • If a renewal payment fails, Pro features end when the paid period does. Stripe will email you so you can update your card.
  • If we change the price, we will tell you in advance, and the new price applies from your next renewal after that notice.

Renders and availability

  • Finished videos stay available for download for seven days. Download what you want to keep.
  • We work to keep the service up, but it is provided as is, without warranties of any kind. We may pause, change or end features, and we are not liable for lost work, lost renders or any indirect loss arising from your use of the service.
  • Our total liability to you for anything arising from the service is limited to what you have paid us in the previous three months.

Ending things

You can stop using the service and ask us to delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. If we close the service or your account for any other reason, we will tell you in advance where we reasonably can.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When a change matters, we will say so on the site or by email before it takes effect, and the effective date at the top will move. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new terms.
